After you book with Ellie B Photography you’ll receive a guide to help prepare for the day, as well as a questionnaire to help me choose the perfect colors and props for your shoot. Most newborn sessions are held within the first two weeks after birth, so I may be one of your first ventures out of the house with your new baby!
When you arrive to my in-home studio, I’ll greet you and welcome you downstairs to my studio space. There is a comfortable waiting area with seating and television, and toys for your littles to occupy themselves with. The studio is a separate room that I keep at a higher temperature for Baby’s comfort. Once we settle in, I’ll take Baby and start with getting them wrapped up in a beautiful wrap to begin the session. If you’ve selected the Premium Newborn package, family photos are usually shot first. This allows the second parent (usually Dad) to then take any siblings home. I’ve found that since newborn shoots can take several hours, it’s best to drive two cars.
Once your baby is wrapped and settled, let the fun begin! Every child is different; some need more feeding or cuddling than others. Some fall asleep and don’t wake up for hours. My sessions are baby-led and baby is the boss! We’ll take breaks for feeding and diaper changes when needed to keep them happy, and shoot as they allow. While I’ll occasionally ask for a parent to stay closer to the baby if I need to fetch something out of my reach (babies can startle easily, and safety is always my first concern), for the most part, this is your time to relax.
After we get the photos we need, you’re done! We’ll get baby dressed and back in their car seat and I’ll see you off. With your permission, I try to post a sneak peek on Facebook within a day or two. I remember what it’s like to anxiously await the photos, so I love to give you something to smile about. I do ask a 2 week turnaround for all sessions, but generally run ahead of schedule. You’ll receive your images via an online, password protected gallery. From that gallery, you can download the photos as well as order from my professional print lab.
